There are so many emotional moments that we come across every season, be it regarding deaths, retirements, or sadness due to leaving a club that you have been associated for so long. Personally for me, these five moments standout:
Frank Lampard put personal grief aside and converted a 98th-minute penalty to put Chelsea 2-1 ahead in the Champions League semis and take them to the finals. It was a moment of personal triumph as well as he emotionally dedicated the goal to his mother, who had recently passed away.
A 19 year old Cristiano Ronaldo broke down into tears as Portugal lost to Greece in the 2004 Euro finals. Throughout the match he took multiple shots but couldn’t find the target. Although it ended in tears, Euro 2004 still remains an important part of the Cristiano Ronaldo rise.
Real Madrid legend Iker Casillas breaks down in tears at his farewell press conference ahead of Porto move. The goalkeeper was visibly emotional as he officially said his goodbyes, 25 years after joining the club as a nine-year-old. Real Madrid lost a lot of fans this day.
Lionel Messi breaks down into tears after losing yet again in a major tournament final. The heartbreak was so intense that he even declared his decision of retiring from the Argentine national team, although he did take it back and re-joined the team, a few months later.
Brighton’s Anthony Knockaert scored a goal against QPR and dedicated it to his late father Patrick, who died recently. The manner of the celebration was too emotional as he ran over to the bench to get a framed picture of his father before kissing it and holding it up to the stands.
One Most Emotional and Inspirational Story
This story is about Derek Redmond at 1992 Barcelona Olympics. Having led his country to gold medal in last year 4*400 mtr. relay race at the world championships he was one of the favourites to win a medal.
As expected he stormed into the semi finals without much difficulty . He was sure he will qualify for the finals. But sadly destiny had something else planed for him.
He started the race very well. But some odd 200 mtrs. from the finish line he pulled his hamstrings. He hobbled into a halt, and then fell to the ground in pain.
He watched his opponents finish the race while he was still on the ground. As stretcher bearers made their way to him he knew he had to decide.
So despite the pain he stood up and started to hobble on the track. He was their to finish the race.
Suddenly, a large man pushed through the crowds, fighting the security. I am his father he declared.
“You dont have to do this”, the man told to his weeping son. “Yes I do” , derek replied. “Well then we will finish it together” his father said.
The father wrapped his arms around his son and helped him hobble through the track.
Shortly before the finish line, he left his son to finish the race with a standing ovation from a crowd of 65,000 .
He may not have won the race but he faught till the end and finished the race . Perhaps this is what matters the most. Despite the pain he gave it all motivated by the love of his father who picked him up when he was down.
So the race will be difficult. Always you will not be the winner . But please dont quit . Someone will be there to help you. You just need to stand up and begin the race again.
Its not the win which matters the most . Perhaps giving it all that you have matters the most.
This incident really made me very emotional and at the same time also motivated me to be determined to finish the journey that i have started.
